I learned this from Brian, who is offering group (streamed) and private (Skype) lessons on various instruments (facebook.com/lessonswithbrian) This is played in G, with a capo on the 2nd fret. The G, Em and C chords are like in Cameos (actually C9 and some suspended versions), as is the D in the verses. D4 is my notation for a normal D chord, adding the fourth finger on the third fret on the high E string; this probably has some official complicated name as well. The F in the bridge can be played with an open high E.

Apparently I wasn't the only person asking Brian for chords to this song (which they still need to play live!), and last fall he posted a really helpful video teaching a few chords and then playing the entire song:

OK, I've strangely gotten three separate requests for the chords to this song today, so I think I'll try to figure it out (haven't played it in a while). I think the easiest thing to do is to write the chords as though there's no capo, (So I'll write a C chord instead of an E flat) because those are the chord shapes I used. There are a few unusual voicings that I use a lot, most of which I ripped off from Radiohead, haha. I'll try to tab them out for you, but I've never done this before so my form is probably completely improper. I'll use numbers for frets and x's for muted strings. I'm using the basic chord names rather than figuring out whether it's a c# minor sus 4 add 9 or something, partially to keep it simple but mostly because I'm lazy. Feel free to substitute nicer voicings - I used the ones I could easily play while singing. 

Here are some of the odder ones: 

g minor = 3|x|0|3|3|0 

f# minor = x|4|4|2|0|0 

c# minor 9 = x|4|2|x|0|0 

Also - I'm pretty bad at barre chords, so i leave the bottom E ringing in a lot of chord shapes (like b minor, F# major, etc). I also generally leave strings open for my A major and D major shapes: 

A major = x|0|2|2|0|0 (so technically an Amaj9)
D major = x|x|0|2|3|0 (again, technically a Dmaj9). 

FINALLY - Alibis' verses are mostly barre-type chords but I left the bottom two strings open and ringing. I can think of a few great songs that use these kinds of chords, but they're all Canadian so you'd have to look them up if interested. "Apparitions" by the Matthew Good Band is a great example (and a BEAUTIFUL song), and some of the chords in "High And Dry" by Radiohead follow the same form. If you want to go way back, "Echo of a Whisper" from our album Aerials uses these chords a lot, as well as the weird G minor shape - so once you learn Real Life/Alibis, you may be able to figure that one out too!
